Real estate developers orchestrate the talents of many team members and balance the interests of a variety of constituents. As a creator of the urban landscape, the developer must navigate the challenging waters of complex public policy, private needs and desires and the constant risks and responsibilities associated with building a superior environment.

This intensive introduction to real estate development will communicate the basic skills necessary to be a successful developer and examine the required capabilities. You will be asked to participate in discussions and share your ideas on the challenges of real estate development. This is an interactive seminar with your comments, questions and ideas as an essential ingredient.

Course Prerequisites

None.  This course is designed to be accessible to individuals with little to no experience with urban development.

Instructor

Stephen Nostrand, UM MRED+U Adjunct Professor

Mr. Nostrand is the Florida President/COO of ONE Commercial Real Estate that was founded by Daniel de la Vega, the President of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty. ONE Sotheby’s has 850 agents in 11 offices throughout Florida

As the third generation in his family to specialize in commercial real estate, Stephen has a diverse background in not only executive leadership, but CRE service lines including investments sales and leasing brokerage, development, debt and equity capital markets, project management, strategic planning, asset and property management, receiverships, training and education. Prior to joining ONE Commercial Real Estate, he was CEO/COO of NAI Miami and CEO of the Colliers International South Florida office. Mr. Nostrand is a professor in the Master of Real Estate Development + Urbanism program at the University of Miami.
